Repair - well impressed!

Somehow during an uninstall/re-install of Nero I managed to completely
blow my Vista install! Tried boot from DVD and repair, first time no
good so I thought I'd give it a second try. Vista recovered
completely! I must admit I am very impressed as I thought a re-install
was on the cards!

cheers,
Len

Well basically I was trying to uninstall Nero Premium to update it to
a Vista compatible version. Uninstall failed, so did the Nero Remove
Tool so I looked on the web and found someone who recommended
instaling a demo of Ultra. Once this installed, I was able to get rif
of Premium. All went fine so I then tried to install the correct
version of Premium. Installer states it has to remove the old version
so I clicked next. It seemed to work and then asked for a reboot. It
was after this reboot that the system refused to start in either
normal or safe mode. No error message just sat there doing nothing for
ages. I rebooted and booted from the DVD. Selected Repair option and
it went away for about 5 minutes of disk activity and then prompted to
do a System restore which I selected - no choice of restore point
given. Once this had completed it asked for a reboot but after this, I
still has exactly the same problem.

Rebooted again from the DVD and selcted the repair option. This time
it took maybe 10 mniutes of loads of disk activity, never prompted for
a system restore and at the end asked for a reboot as it had finished.
This time it rebooted fine BUT i have noticed that all previous
restore points had gone so I created one straight away.

cheers,
Len

Here's my procedure, blacklist Nero from my Vista PC. With Deepburner
portable and ISO recorder there is no need for Nero anyway and both are
free.
