Nero & & Vista 64bit

I have encountered my first software problem with Vista ( Business 64 bit )
and it is with Nero 7 XXX.
I installed my copy of Nero Essentials to find out that Vista 64 doesn't
support Nero. So I emailed Nero ( Ahead ) and questioned them about the fact
that XP Pro 64 has no problem with Nero so why should Vista. Their reply is
as follows;
"Windows Vista 64-bit Edition is supported by Nero 7.
Please note that the Nero ImageDrive and InCD 5 features do not yet support
Windows Vista 64-bit Edition" Included with this email was a link to the free
upgrade dated 21/05/07. I downloaded the 179meg file and installed it, the
funny thing I noticed during the install was that it installed into the x86
directory ( used for 32 bit programs ) It got halfway through the
installation and ceased to install. There were no messsages from Vista saying
that there had been an error or anything like that. It didn't showup in the
start menu either which I thought strange. I thought that just incase I had
screwed up the installation I would go into Control Panel and do a "Repair"
it wouldn't repair so I then tried to "Uninstall it" nah it didn't want to do
that either as there was a registry uninstall key missing.
I emailed Nero a couple of times and they said it should work and naturally
I said it didn't lolol. Has anyone else had trouble with Nero installing on
Vista 64?

Is it possible you downloaded the wrong version? Did the link Ahead sent
you take you directly to the Vista 64-bit download or was it in fact a link
to their Vista updates in which you had to choose the 64-bit version in
which case, you might accidentally have downloaded and tried to install the
wrong version, perhaps selecting the first file you saw.

Hi Michael,

I thought of that myself but there was only one file to download. Earlier in
the week I did download an upgrade which was the 32 bit version but this one
was different.
If however it is another 32 bit version the tech guys at Nero are idiots
because they didn't read my messages.

:), you know, those tech bots sometimes can't make "SMALL" distinction such
as the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit.

Did you uninstall your previous version of Nero before attempting to install
the new download? If not, perhaps that was the issue.

My experience with Nero, limited as it was and Roxio for that matter was
that neeither were too easy to completely remove.

My guess is, whatever is left over, something probably buried very deep, is
hosing the Nero 64 install.

If you didn't try this initially in removing Nero 7, they have a
"CleanTool:"
http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html

I'd reinstall the original version or try using System Restore to take you
back to a time when that version was still installed, then try using their
tool to see if you can escape any remnants and then move forward with the
upgrade you downloaded...at 179MB, I'd hardly call it an update!:)

HI Michael,

This what Nero sent me, check it out
Nero 7 Reloaded supports Windows Vista since version 7.5.7.0

You can download the latest Nero 7 version from our website (free of
charge
for all Nero 7 customers!):
http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php
You certainly have a Vista compatible version and according to the site,
it's x64 compatible. From what you've, written, Bob, I still think the
problem lies with the broken uninstall of the previous version.

Hi Michael,

Your suggestion about that cleanup program wouldn't work because my original
version 7 of Nero wont install. So what I did today was a system restore to a
couple of days before I put Nero on originally. Surprise surprise Nero was
still there grrrrrr
I just might have to bite the bullet and do a clean install. At the moment I
am using Ashampoo's cd/dvd burner program even though it doesn't do as much
as Nero, I will think this over for a day or so before gutting and cleaning.

Whoa, do I ever know the feeling.

Well, good luck, Bob. If I think of any other possibilities, I'll post
back.

As discussed in this post I thought about re installing Vista ( Business 64 )
to see if I could get the Nero 64 bit upgrade to work on this machine. Well,
I did the clean install and loaded the upgrade and it installed and works
fine. I was just too bad that I had to do the clean install just to be able
to get rid of the other Nero I had installed.
