If I use this facility from my original XPSP1 disc & it finds system files
that need replacing does it also check to see if there are later files in
the directory from the SP2 upgrade?

Hi,

If you do a repair installation (which is not done from the Recovery
Console, it is done by running setup and choosing the option to repair an
existing installation), then the files are reverted to the version that is
included on the disk being used to make the repair. Service Packs and other
updates released after that will need to be reinstalled.

OK - Thanks for all the replies. I guess I now have an understanding of what
it's all about.
