Recovery Console defunct in SP1 or SP2?

I'm trying to use the Recovery Console to fix a corrupt file allocation table
on a slave hard drive. I'm using XP Home SP2 and following the instructions
in Windows Help. I inserted my XP disc (an upgrade disc I bought retail) and
ran the needed command; I got the message that said "the operating system is
not the same version as the os on the CD" (something like that). I tried
again with my SP2 disc in the CD drive and it couldn't find the needed
executable file in any of the disc's folders.

Is Recovery Console no longer available?

It appears that only the extracted file winnt32.exe is required for the
procedure. Any chance you could post this file on your site in order to
avoid having people (especially those on dial-up) download the large SP2
patch?

Thanks,
Harvey

I could, but Microsoft frowns on hosting their copyrighted files on
non-Microsoft sites.

Hadn't thought of that. Do you think they would be interested in posting
your solution in their knowledge base (along with the file)?

Thanks,
Harvey
