repair process

Hi there, I have a corrupt/missing file,
System 32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
and need to repair it using my original xp cd and pressing R for
repair...however a message comes up indicating the version of windows on the
computer is newer than the cd thus it will not let me repair? How do you boot
from the CD and or what is the work around for this? Can the file be repaired
without a format being done?
Thanks for any help, Skittles.

To boot from the CD, you have to manually go into your CMOS settings
and specify to boot from the CD first. Usually, when you first power on
your computer, it indicates you need to press a certain key or
combination of keys to get into the CMOS or BIOS. If the screen is too
fast for you to see it, you can try pressing the Pause button on your
keyboard to pause the screen.

The problem is because you have Service Pack 2 installed and your
original XP cd is pre-SP2. You need to make a slipstreamed XP cd to
include SP2. This is very easy. I recommend AutoStreamer, but I've
included other links to help you.

Apparently you already know how to boot from the cd and the issue is
just that you need to make a slipstreamed XP.
