Windows will not boot

kah

This started with no warning ... running windows xp home and when I try to
start whether it is in regular mode or safe mode, I get the following message:

windows cannot start because the following file is either missing or
corrupt. Try booting to your windows cd a choose r for repair at the first
screen.

Have run chkdsk /r in this function and it says it has found and repaired
errors, but I continie to have the same problem. Is there any solution other
than re-installing windows? Thanks!

The message meant that you should perform a repair installation (which is
vastly different from chkdsk /r).
Jim.
