Repair Problem

Did some house Cleaning as dusting sweeping. had to move my computer and
accessories. After reconnecting everything and I know everything is right
and nothing was disconnected with power on. Now I get the following message
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt,
windows\system32\config\system"

Tried to get into repair console with Windows Xp CD as first boot with no
luck. What are my alternatives?

Making sure all is connected properly, unplug pc,remove battery, locate the
CMOS
jumper pin on the MB,move from 1-2 position to 2-3 for .45 seconds or so.Then
back to 1-2 position, replace battery, start pc.You'll need to reset basic BIOS
settings before you start xp,date/time,set optimal defaults, then set for any
add-ins,save & exit BIOS.

Thanks for your reply.
Battery is good.Clock at correct time.Typed the following command after
going into CD, enter, at c prompt typed, "ATTRIB -H -R -S BOOT.INI "
Without the quotes, reply comes back, "Parameter is not valid. Can't go no
further in repair console. At a loss computer functioned wonderfully.

Trying to follow recovery console article in Smart Computing Magazine. Not
that well versed in computer language or mechanics
