stop error

I keep getting this stop error
C000218 {registry file failure}
systemRoot\System32\config\Software or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent or or not writable.

How do i copy or reinstall the file without a clean install or with using
the repair console?
I am using xp home.

How do i reinstall the missing or corrupt file?

I have the system disk that came with this gateway computer. Right now i am
running chkdsk /r on the computer.
