My customer got the following message "Windows could not start because the
file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system corrupt "

Okay no problem done this 100 times - boot to BartsPE, copy
c:\windows\repair\system but the file is missing, there is the system.bak
but when I boot with that file I get "When trying to update a password the
return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is
not correct."

Adam, if System Restore has been functioning try
going to System Volume Information
Folder>RPFolder>pick one three from the most recent ie: if RP18 then go to
RP15>Snapshot Folder>first five Registry Files. Copy all five and go to
C:\Windows\System32\Config Folder. Those files you copied should be System,
Default, Software, Sam and Security.
Find those same files in the Config Folder and rename them ie: System1,
Default1 etc. Then paste the five files you copied
into the Config Folder. Restart.
