Repair of System Restore

I clicked a web site that hijacked my homepage, put my internet explorer in a
loop and possibly corrupted my System restore. I have tried to restore from
several dates but it always fails to complete because of some sort of error.
I managed to get around the first two problems but I not been able to fix
the latter.
My antivirus, Norton 360, has found no malicious code even after a deep scan.
I bought the Sony VGN140E with Vista Home Premimum from a retail store, so
it did not include a copy of Vista or any disk for recovery. I'm not sure
the Vista disk would help, but does anyone have a cure?

Search Help & Support for how to create recovery discs. On HP/Compaqs, it
is easy to find. Or Sony should be able to supply them for a fee -- go to
the Sony web site and search for your model number and order form. I don't
have any help for how to get out of your current troubles.

Could this problem be caused by an IE add-on?

You could try going to Start Orb > All Programs > Accessories > System
Tools >
Internet Explorer (no add-ons), and enable add-ons one by one to determine if an
add-on is causing this problem.

If by "managed to get around the first two problems" you mean you believe
your machine is now malware free (I hope you used more than just Norton to
check and clean it), try disabling (to remove corrupted restore points) and
then re-enabling System Restore.
