I am trying to run a different motherboard with the same
hard drive and i was told to do a repair installtion of
win xp from dos to get them to work together. well when
i start the repair installation it says that there has
been an internal error? anybody know how to solve this?

Repair wont cut it with a new mb,youll need to select install xp,new copy
when booting to xp cd.The new copy configures the new board, repair cant do that..

XP REPAIR
.............................................................................

Boot from the CD or you can insert the CD while at the windows desktop but
when the setup screen appears, exit setup and reboot. If your system is set
to be able to boot from the CD, it should detect the disk and give a brief
message, during the boot up, if you wish to boot from the CD press any key.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

Andrew;
Your information is incorrect.
If after changing the motherboard there are boot issues a Repair
Installation is the recommended procedure to properly detect the new
hardware.
So yes a Repair Installation can do that.

Remove everything except the Video, Keyboard and Mouse. Then follow the
steps in the link below for a repair install.
You should apply all the critical updates before connecting to the internet,
so download the updates and save to CD or another partition or hard drive
prior to running setup.

Would the XP repair work to try and fix mess left behind by Sasser infection
or would I need to do clean install?

Phyllis
I did answer your other post ...The system you described seemed to be in a
bigger mess than the Sasser infection only.A repair installation will NOT get
rid of a virus it will only fix XP files and set them back to their original CD
settings and correct the HAL for hardware changes.
