Hi
has anyone had to do a repair install of xp as it boils down that i need to
do this to be able to put the correct acpi drivers on to enable correct
power down on shutdown , and were there any problems ....
regards
steve

There are several considerations to resolve this. First, I would
slipstream my XP disk with SP2. Next, see how your current BIOS
version compares to the latest available. (Read the History file, and
look for ACPI compliancy changes). If BIOS is say 5 or more Revs
down - Carefully consider a BIOS Flash update. Just "Forcing" XP
to install with an ACPI HAL isn't always enough to ensure it works.
Enter BIOS Setup and make sure that any ACPI enabling options
are turned on, in deference to APM.
Before proceeding to the "Repair Install", create a Verified/Image
backup of your XP OS partition. (Obviate the Risk w/ Repair)
After the Repair - revisit Windows Update, Office Update and get
and update any primary hardware device drivers. (Video, Chipset &
Sound). Then do another Image after you verify that the Repair has
indeed fixed the shutdown issue(s).

Hi,
Before i do something drastic...on boot up my computer , i can pause it when
it shows loading hdd ect and it shows "power managment" disabled is this xp
disabling it or could there be something else in bios i havnt seen...bios
says acpi set to s1/pos
