After event viewer and chkdsk showed problems with my file system, I googled
for help and found that I needed to run a repair install. Switched bios to
run from cd/dvd 1st and hd 2nd. Reboot got the DVD running but went to a
blank screen with just A:\ blinking. Any help on this PLEASE.

Boot from the XP installation CD. Not sure what DVD you're talking about.
Here is a link on how to do a repair install.

If chkdsk showed problems with the file system, I'm not sure why you think a
repair install is what is needed.

Let's start from the beginning.

1. What specific errors or warnings did you note in Event Viewer?

2. What specific problems did you note when you ran chkdsk to scan your
hard disk for errors?

3. What specific problems had you been experiencing with your PC in the
first place? And do you recall doing anything in particular (e.g.,
installing a particular program, downloading a particular file, clicking
on a popup ad, etc.) right before you started experiencing problems?

4. Please describe this DVD.

5. What is the make and model of your PC? Do you have an installation
disk (it's a CD, not a DVD, by the way) or do you have a
recovery/restore disk?
