Repair install from different editions?

Can the repair installation function from one edition of XP be used to
repair
another version/ edition?
Two machines built about a year apart each with a different version of XP.
I have both origianl CD's.
The older didn't have SP2 the newer did.
The newer version "seems" to have some other choices also at the boot screen
the
older one doesn't have.
Thanks

Find out the exact versions you have (RTM/SP1/SP1a/SP2/OEM/SB/Retail),
ensure the same language resources, try it out and repost the versions
and the result of your test.

There are many possible combinations (see above), so nobody can answer
your question with 'yes' or 'no'. The Microsoft Java VM, for instance,
came along with SP1 only - no way to repair when using another version.
Therefore, it's always best when using the corresponding CD to perform
the repair install.
