Hi All,

I have a Dell PC with Windows XP Home edition. I upgraded it with SP2. I
need to repair Windows using the CD but it says the Windows is newer and
does not repair it. What should I do?

Thank a lot.

First off, you're getting that error message because you're trying to start the
repair installation from within Windows. You're installation CD does not contain
Service Pack 2 so Windows complains. In this situation, you have two options,
uninstall SP2, or create what's called a slipstreamed installation CD. Take a
look at this web site for more info.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP

Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to
follow this procedure:

An alternative approach would be to boot your computer from your XP installation
CD and start the repair installation by following the steps outlined in this
article.

Consult the manual for your computer on the procedure to configure your system
to boot from the XP installation CD. You might also want to pay attention when
your computer first starts for an entry on the screen that mentions how to enter
Setup. It usually involves hitting a key such as Del or F2. Once in the Setup
program you will need to locate the section that deals with configuring boot
devices.

Following this procedure would mean that you'd have to reinstall SP2 and all
subsequent updates after the repair is completed.

Finally, no matter what option you attempt, make sure you've backed up all your
important files. And make sure you can recover them after they're backed up.

Good luck

If "repair xp" isnt an option when booting to xp cd,then simply reinstall xp.
A repair takes almost the same time as a clean install if youve saved youre
settings/data,etc.
