I am unable to access my INBOX and get the error message:
"Unable to display folder".

I am running Office XP professional 2002

Are there options other than re-installing the complete suit?

Are you able to access if you use the Folder List, by clicking on the Inbox?
Can you see the Inbox if you click on the Inbox icon in the Outlook toolbar?
