Reordering contacts in the To/CC/BCC box when sending emails

Using office 2003 on WinXP Media Center.
When sending emails, selecting a TO/CC/BCC name from the "select names"
dialog box, my contacts are listed with Name, display name, email address,
email type fileds. Since the Name field is shown in the format - first name,
last name - I must type the FIRST name of the person I am looking for, which
is not as specific as using the LAST name as the search term.
I was able to change this in Office 2002, but I forgot how. Is it possible
to change the fields displayed in the "Select names" box or otherwise change
the search to last name?

Thanks - I found the path you describe - and made the change under Show names
by "Smith, John" - however, that path only dealt with Outlook Address Books
and I get my contacts from Outlook Contacts folder in my personal folders
pst. It there someway to link these two together? Even with the change above
the names in "contacts" are still "john smith".
If I switch to Outlook address book in the "select names" box of an email -
there are no names in my outlook address book.

The Outlook Addess Book service IS the service to use your Contacts folder
as an address list. You can use the previous specified location to add the
folder or rightclick on your Contacts folder-> Properties-> tab Outlook
Address Book

The default way to store names in Contacts is managed through Tools->
Options-> Contact Options...
Changing that setting will only effect new contacts.

Sorry - this may be a dup - there was an error when sending my last reply.
when chekcing the right click contact folder>Properties - the box was
already checked to use Contact as my address book.
but when checking the new email>Select names i found the change was
effective [ie Smith, John]
Possibly I had to exit outlook to make the original change you specified
below effective.
In any case, thanks for your help and prompt replies.
