Renaming MP3 Files

My MP3 CD player requires folders and files to be named as follows:
001 album
001 song.mp3
002 song.mp3
etc.
002 album
etc.

The length of the number and album name or song name can't be over 30
characters. The Microsoft Media Player uses a 2 character song prefix and any
length song title.

Is there a way to either set the Media Player to do it or is there an
automatic way to rename all of the files in the correct format? It has to be
done manually now.

It all depends on the player you are using. XP will let you batch rename all
of
your songs with one change but it will not be in the format required by your
CD player. It will name all the songs with one name and number them from
one (1) thru whatvever....i.e. I Am Lonely (1).mp3, I Am Lonely (2).mp3,
etc. Furnish the brand (name) of your CD player, and someone reading this
post may have solved the problem and post a positive response.
Note: System format FAT32 supports only 8 characters.
System format NTFS supports up to 255 characters.
You can change from FAT32 to NTFS but not the reverse. :~)

System format FAT32 supports only 8 characters.
FAT12/16 = 8.3 (DOS)
FAT16 [Extended] = 255
VFAT = 255 (Win95)
FAT32 = 255 (Win98, ME, 2K, XP)
NTFS = 255 (Win2K, XP)

....unless you use a third party tool, like PM.
