renaming files

Until recently, I could right click on a file or folder and rename it. Now I
get a message that "if you chage the file name extension, the file may
become unusable"
I have been renaming pictures and files for years with no problem.
Help?!

Hi Bob,

Folder names require no extension. Files *do*. Rename the file but
leave the extension the same.
