Looking for the proper sequence for renaming a Windows 2000 Member Server
(Windows 2003
Active Directory environment):
1) log on locally and remove from the domain then add to workgroup
2) reboot
3) unplug the server from the network
4) remove old server name from AD, allow for AD replication
5) plug back into network
4) change name
5) add to domain and proper OU

You should be able to rename a Member Server without having to remove it
from the domain. It is only DCs that can't be renamed while part of the
domain.

Hello coachk via WinServerKB.com,

No problem with renaming in the domain. Use an administrative account, even
possible with domain admin. With domain admin not necessary to login locally.
