Hello all. I'm running WinXP Pro; after entering file rename mode by
clicking once on the file, then a second time to edit, I used to be
able to then double-click to select the complete filename. I recently
did some automatic Microsoft WinXP updates, and now when I
double-click to select the filename, I only get part of the filename
selected.

For instance, on the filename: 'test.txt', I click once to select the
file, then click a second time to enter filename rename mode, and then
double-click the filename, and ONLY the 'test' portion is selected,
not the '.txt' portion.

Does anyone know how to set this back to be able to double-click to
select the complete filename?

Sincerely,
Paul Rubin

| when I double-click to select the filename...
| 'test' portion is selected, not the '.txt' portion.

1. Do the 'test' and '.txt' portions appear on separate rows,
for example, on the Desktop, or in a view other than "List" or "Details" in Windows Explorer?

2. Instead of double-clicking to select the filename, have you tried to Right-click, then choose | Select All | ?

Thanks for your reply Jan. Yes, 'test' and '.txt' are all on one line.
There are other methods I can use to select the full filename, however
the double-click is the easiest, and I do this particular action
dozens of times per day. I want to find a way to restore the previous
double-click method as it saves time.

Any clues?
Sincerely,

Does this happen with any filename? Did you try other types? For
example try making several text files and naming them things like "blah.jpg"
"asd asd.exe" "test test testtestestest test.fff" and so on. What happens
with those?
