removing xp pro from one laptop to upgrade another

I currenly have XP Pro on an old laptop. Can I uninstall
it to use as a upgrade for a new laptop, that has XP Home?

NO! The XP Pro is more than likely a OEM version configured to work with
the first laptop and can not be used to upgrade.

If it's a retail version of XP Professional, yes. If it's no OEM
version (for example, one that came preinstalled on the laptop),
no; doing so would be a violation of the licensing agreement,
which requires that once installed it not be moved to another
computer.

Also be aware that you may have all kinds of issues with special
drivers needed for your new laptop, and that changing its
operating system may void your warranty on it.

If the XP Pro on the old laptop is a retail version, you can remove it
and use it to upgrade your new laptop's XP Home. However, sometimes
installing a retail version to a proprietary laptop will cause
problems. Be sure you can obtain drivers first. Check with the
laptop maker.
