Boot computer with Windows 98 boot disk.

FDISK to remove all partitions
FDISK to make a new partition
do not need if fat 32 file system

FORMAT C:/s
stick cdrom in cdrom drive type d:\setup

if replacing with win me put cdrom in a microwave oven for a week.
Someone more sober than I will come along shortly and give pages and pages
of links and instructions but my method is the quickest

Probably a full system rebuild (of software) XP uses a hard drive file
system of NTFS, which you cannot (i believe) install windows 98 or ME on to,
this means backing up wanted data, booting from a win98 floppy, removing
partitions, creating FAT partitions and then installing windows 98 or ME,
quite frankly its a timely process, and its not a nice one, i can't see why
you would want to go back to the systems that will display a "Blue Screen Of
Death" at least 3 times a day, fall over and die for no reason about 12
times a day, give you a headache with problems...etc....i'd stick to XP! ;)

I agree, I also need to know. XP does not allow DOS
based programs to work properly. I bought a new computer
and now I have to put the old one back in service just to
run one Important program I have. I tried to re-format
the drive, but "XP LIVES, and will not self distruct".
Worst of all, the company that sold me the program has had
many complaints from others, that XP blocks printing
format on the Laser Printer.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

Greetings --

If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
