I am running Windows XP home edition which was and upgrade to my Windows 98.
I just bought an complete version of Windows XP Professional, for computer
builders.
Can I just load the CD and do an installation without having to reformat my
hard drive ?
I need to know before opening the package as once open can not be returned.

I did not realize this Windows XP was for builders until it arrived today.
Is there a difference between a regular Windows XP Professional and a
builders edition ?

The OEM version is "for system builders" only (by description). The OEM
version cannot do an "in-place upgrade", as MS calls it, preserving your XP
Home programs and configuration. It can only do a clean install (start
over). Additionally, it is tied to the computer you load it on forever.
When the computer dies, the license dies with it. You cannot load it onto a
different computer. That's why it is cheaper than the retail version.
