Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Home

I have a PC with Windows 2000 Professional currently
installed (in NTFS format). I would like to completely
remove 2000 and replace it with Windows XP Home. How can
I reformat the hard drive to make it ready for
installation of XP Home?

Just boot with the XP cd and the installation routine will allow you to
delete partitions and format them prior to installing XP.

During the install of Windows XP, you are given the
option to repartition and reformat your drive.

I tried that and it didn't work. I received the message informing me
that I could not 'upgrade' from 2000 Professional to XP Home.
Then boot with a Win98 boot disk, use fdisk to delete partitions and
create new ones. Then install WinXP and use it to format.

But you can boot from your WinXP_Home-CD and install...

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Add: When it gets to ask you where, you may need to hit ESC to get the
option to delete the existing partition and make a new one. I would
advise doing that to make sure it is a proper fresh one with nothing in
it. You will need a full (not upgrade) CD of XP Home
