Removing Startup Entries

Hi,

In Windows XP I used a startup manager called "Codestuff Starter" to
remove startup entries. In Windows Vista I cannot disable or remove
these startups with this program. I am guessing this is some security
feature of Vista. Is there a workaround for this, or must I use
msconfig alone? MSConfig doesn't allow the entries to be deleted, only
unchecked.

Could possibly be one of three things.
1) You have Permissions issues
2) The item (or a portion thereof) is actually running as a service and will
re-enable itself as long as the service is running (Windows Defender being
an example, which must have the service stopped and disabled before removing
the startup item)
3) Viruses and other malware behave this way also.

Max,

Thanks. You were exactly right on #1 (you don't have permissions). I
restarted Codestuff Starter as Administrator, and voila, i can check
and delete startup entries to my heart's content.

As annoying as some of the security features in Vista have been for
me, I still think they are great! They keep the average user from
doing much harm to their OS.
