down to a crawl, this isn't an update, it's a bloody
virus, how do I remove it?? please anyone??

Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

XP2, on two machines, zero problems!

Go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Near the top check the box "Show Updates"
Then look for "Service Pack 2"
From there you can uninstall SP-2.

If you are having that kind of troubles it is likely your computer is
unprepared for SP-2:

Also you may need to update drivers and verify SP-2 compatibility with
your hardware and software.

Oops...make that SP2, on two machines...hum...slight problem...it must be
causing typos! :)

In your C:\windows(XP) directory you will find a ntservicepack uninstall folder
under which you will find a spuninst folder inthere look for the uninstall
file...........spuninst.exe

If you have an anti-virus installed update it with the
live update utility. Also scan for spyware,
spybot/adware/spysweeper are a few good programs.
To uninstall XP2 start/settings/control panel = add/remove
programs at the bottom you will see SP2.

Thank you all for the replies, I'm trying to get rid of
it now, I don't see how it's supposed to be so amazing
when it breaks everything else on my computer that's been
running for years. My games won't even start up now, I
get errors saying it doesn't find DirectX...I hate this.

If I knew it was going to break everything I would've
said no when auto-update prompted me for the
download ::sigh::

thats why you should not use auto update. do it manually
and see what you are installing and any known issues.

Why do you need to tick the box? SP-2 shows up regardless of the tick box.
The only thing it hides/unhides on my computer is the 6.01 update to Adobe
Acrobat Reader. It does not hide the 6.02 though...

Deployed on 4 machines here and no problem whatsoever. I suspect your
installation of windows was dodgy to begin with and the problems were
magnified with SP2. Clean install of OS and then SP2 will clear up your
problem.

Get a Game Boy.

Well, duh!

It was broke before you downloaded SP2. That is why SP2 caused the problems
you describe. I deployed to 4 computers of different vintages and had NO
issues on any of them. Your installation of Windows was probably dodgy
before you installed SP2; I would recommend a clean install, or as others
have suggested get a game console.

your computer is

compatibility with

You don't have it because it was added with SP2.

That is possible, but my computer has always run like a
dream (between gaming and software development tools,
I've never had any real lag), and right after agreeing to
install SP2 games stopped running, and i can't even open
my start menu...i just wnat it out, it's causing more
problems then it is fixing (i've always checked for
viruses/spyware/adware, never had much of anything)
thanks for the replies!
