Removing search addresses

G

Guest

tried using "crouchie" and it did not work although it may work on internet
explorer however I have found that entering addresses on the MSN address bar
and clicking on the green search button while in internet explorer the
previous addresses when entering a new one do not show up in a scroll down
address list. In other words there is no scroll down. Previous addresses do
not come up . In MSN explorer however they still come up as a scroll down
list. To get the crouchie to download and install I had to install .Net
Framework 1.1 which worked ok.

Thanks for your assistance.

re the crouchie installation, it was recommended by a responder to my
original question by newbie coder. Well I have had enough of this problem and
will just put up with it. I thank you for all your assistance Gary and your
time taken to respond to this problem.

hi nass
tried your message with the following results:-
Clear history and keeping history to zero--I already had done this.

re:- empty temporary internet files folder--I had already done this

re- close your IE propeerties---etc--did this and cleared temps but it did
not help

re:- google website--re web forms and web addresses--I had already done what
was suggested

re:- MSN location I tried the C:\documents and settings etc in search but it
would not work. Dialog box came and advised accordingly.(forgot what it
said). Tried "run" with same thing. Didn't really know how to go about this
one

Re-regedit it came up db Default REG_SZ value not set. Nothing there.

So my friend I have given up on this problem and will just live with it.

When I go to internet explorer and type in an address (google) in the MSN
address bar and click on the green search bar I go to the website ok. I hit
the back button and come back to the main page and I entered Yahoo in the MSN
address bar and clicked on the green search bar and went to Yahoo without
problem Using the back button to get back to the main page I entered another
google and there was no scroll down page that came up to show that I had
already gone to google and yahoo. So this seems to work. Going back to MSN
explorer the addresses are still coming up in the scroll down. One thing I
noted was when I enter an address in the MSN address bar and as an example
the first letter of the address will say is F, the scroll down page comes up
and lists all sites that I have gone to all starting with the letter F. This
occurs with any other first letter that I use and it shows all sites starting
with that letter. If I use a letter that is not the first letter in any
addresses previously used then the scroll down does not occur. Thank you for
your time and effort spent to try and resolve this problem. It is very much
appreciated.

Hi nass

followed your instruction however there were no URL's in the right pane.
Using the first Hkey item (internet explorer) the wording ab Default type:-
REG_Sz Data:-Value not set. Using the second HKEY (Internet settings) it
showed "Days to Keep" REG_DWORD 0x and 8 zeros (0). The info at the bottom of
the page showed that I had put the info as shown. On the second HKEY
(internet Settings) the URL History was shown under Protocols. Clicking on
protocols and then URL History made no difference. The first steps that you
provided i.e Ctl pnl Network & internet connections did not work either. The
"Use inline Autocomplete" was already unchecked. I did uncheck "web addresses
and forms" boxes. The info provided was very detailed and I thank you for
taking the time to provide the detail. It was very easy for me to follow and
I thank you. I appears that I am stuck with this address business so will
have to put up with it.

Thank you again.

Hi Daave
I have tried just everything recommended by the members replying to my
question and none of the things work. Consequently I have given up trying to
get a resolution and will not bother with it any further. I believe the
ccleaner will work ok for internet explorer but not on MSN explorer. Using
MSN address bar and going to wesites while using internet explorer no scroll
down occurs to show the previous sites that I have been to. The problem
appears to be peculiar to MSN explorer. Thanks again for your time and
suggestions

Did you try my suggestion using Taskbar and Start Menu dialogue? That's
where you're going to find what you want.

HI Gary . I didn't grasp exactly what you were saying and was unable to do
the action. However, I tried one last thing. I put the cursor over one of the
addresses and the address turned blue in color. I rightclicked and I believe
a scroll down came with a delete selection. I cliked on the delete and
nothing happened. So instaed of this I went to the delete button on my
keyboard and held it down and it went thru' all the addresses and cleared
them all. Now no scroll down occurs. All the addresses are gone. I don't know
if I missed something in all your efforts to assist me or not and perhaps
this is just my own stupidity but it appears that the problem is resolved. If
you wish to expand on your latest suggestion I will keep it in mind for
future reference with internet explorer. Thank you again for all your time
and assistance. It is very much appreciated. It really irks me to stumble on
to such a simple solution after all this.

Hi again. I tried one last thing to rid myself of the addresses. I put the
cursor over one of the addresses and the address turned blue in color. I
right clicked the address and I believe a scroll down came up which showed a
delete action. I clicked on it and nothing happened. I then went to my
keyboard and held down the delete button. Immediately it ran thru each
address and cleared each one. Now There is no scroll down when I enter an
address in the address bar. All addresses are gone Again thank you for your
assistance.

In Control Panel, there is an item called Taskbar and Start Menu (switch
Control Panel to Classic view to see it more easily.) Open that, then click
on the Start Menu tab at top. Click on the Customize button next to the menu
style that you have ticked, then click either the Clear or the Clear List
button. It's a LOT faster than your method, which we recommend to edit the
list rather than clear it completely.

I tried one last thing in an effort to clear the addresses. I put the cursor
over an address and it turned blue in color. Right clicking on the address
brought up a scroll down which had a delete function on it. I cliked on it
and nothing happened. So I went to the keyboard and held down the delete
button and immediately it ran through each one in succession and eliminated
them all. Now when I enter an address the scroll down does not come up as
there are no addresses left. Again thank you for your assistance.

Anote to advise you that I was able to finally get the addresses deleted. I
put the cursor over an address and it turned into a blue color. I right
clicked and a scroll down showed delete so clicked on it and nothing
happened. I did this a day or so back. Thought that I would try it again
however the same happened. This time however after putting the cursor on an
address and having it turn a blue color I pressed my delete button on my
keyboard and immediately it ran through all addresses deleting each one. I
entered an address in the address bar and no scroll down came up. All
addresses were gone. Thank you for your time and consideration in trying to
help me with this problem. I couldn't believe that such a simple thing
actually deleted all the addresses. Thank you again for your time and
interest.

Hi Gary. I tried your below suggestion and found the Taskbar and Start Menu
under Appearances & Themes in the control panel. It appears that by using the
clear button it will clear the list of items on my start menu. I am curious
as to what this would have to do with the addresses problem which as I
advised previously has been resolved.

My bad... Click on the Advanced tab and then click the Clear List button.
Sorry about that. I seldom see and don't use that new menu, I use the
Classic one.

If that doesn't wipe all the places you want wiped, then go to Internet
Options, Content tab, Autocomplete button.

I sent you a note last night but I guess that you didn't get it. I advised
you that I finally got the addresses deleted.I put the cursor over an address
and it turned a blue color. I did this a few days ago and if I remember
correctly a scroll down came up with the one of the words shown as delete. I
had clicked on this before and nothing happened. This time I did the same
thing only I pressed and held the delete button on my keyboard and
immediately it scrolled thru all the addresses and deleted every one. I then
entered a website and this time there was no scroll down of addresses. A
simple resolution to this problem. Very frustrating after all you and the
other contributors provided in time and energy to assist me.Again thank you
for your assistance. I hope that you receive this message this time.

Hi nass
I sent you a message last night and it looks like you never received it. I
want to advise you that after all the help that you provided I finally got
the addresses deleted by a very simple method. A few days ago I put the
cursor over an address and it turned a blue color. If I remember a scroll
down came up and contained the word delete and I clicked on it and nothing
happened so didn't try again. To-nite I tried it again only this time I
pressed and held down the delete button on my keyboard. Immediately it ran
thru all addresses and deleted them all. I entered a web address in the MSN
address bar and this time there was no scroll down of addresses. I was really
ticked to find such an easy solution after all the time you took to assist me
with this problem. However I did learn a lot from you and it is very much
appreciated. I have kept a print out of our correspondence for future
reference. Why I was never able to delete the addresses via clicking on
delete is beyond me and frustrating to find it did not work but did using the
keyboard.Again thank you for all your time and effort that you put in to
assist me. It is very much appreciated. I hope that you received this message
this time.
