Removing scanner software from XP Home Edition

I attempted to install (it locked up the computer) the
software for HP Scanjet 5100C -Precision Scan &
Utilities. I tried to uninstall it from Add & Remove
where it shows 0.21 MB for it but I get an error message
that it cannot be removed, but that it has to be
removed. Need help............
