Removing remaining SpyWare

Used Spybot to remove Hotbar and related spyware on both
our networked computers...spybot worked well on computer
#1..seemed to removed all nasty files. It freezes up on
my computer; doesn't complete scan, have to use C/A/D
to get out of program...any suggestions on how I can
remove remaining files? Scan didn't even get as far as
Hotbar as it did on other computer...

Probably made a mistake the other day when I first
experienced internet and email problems..attempted to
delete Hotbar thru conventional means. Then reinstalled
XP...is there a remedy for whatever damage that did?
Without having computer rebuilt? At this time am able to
access internet and use Outlook Express..much better than
yesterday.

Thanks..

Wow, talk about using a sledgehammer to hammer in a tiny nail! You
didn't need to reinstall Windows! First, be sure you update Spybot and
that will take care of the locking problem. There's a button called
"online" I believe which will take you to other buttons called "check
for updates" and "download updates". I also recommend running spyware
removal tools in Safe Mode so that memory-resident crap isn't running.

Also, get the free version of Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. I
usually run both these programs - each one seems to catch stuff the
other misses. Be sure to update Ad-aware ("check for updates") before
running.
