Hotbar

Unless I'm mistaken, MS AntiSpyware does not
detect "Hotbar" as adware or spyware. I know when it was
Giant AntiSpy it did. Did Microsoft cave in to Hotbar's
threats of suing them if they recognized Hotbar for what
it is: Adware/Spyware?. This gives me great pause about
the effectiveness of Microsoft AntiSpyware. If Microsoft
is going to cave in to spyware/adware maker's threats,
then it will be no better than Adaware which has
apparently already removed Hotbar from its spyware
database.

SpySweeper and PestPatrol both detect Hotbar as
spyware/adware. Hotbar is one of the worst things you can
install on your computer yet MS AntiSpyware won't detect
or uninstall it? What's up with that, Microsoft?

I have had the same question myself...not about hotbar,
which I think I got rid of with spybot search and
destroy, but with certain pop-up ads that say MSN in the
blue heading bar...they are all garbage, but I thought
perhaps these were actually paying MSN for use of their
technology...

Have you turned off Windows Messenger Service?

If you use Ad-Aware they have an addon which will let you
disable it.

You can check if this is the problem at
http://tinyurl.com/4ah57 and they also provide a way of
closing this function.
