Removing Programs - "Windows XP Hotfix (SP1)...

D

Dan McGowan

In trying to speed-up my Windows XP Home Edition (newly
purchased Dell desktop), I went to the window that allows
you to uninstall programs and I came across the
following "Currently installed programs":
"Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) [See Q311967 for more information]
along with two dozen others, except for the "Q" number
being different.

My question is: what are these?...and can I safely remove
them? When attempting to do so, I get the message "make
sure that none of the following programs are effected -
and then is list some basic programs in a pop-up window.

Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks for your time!
Sincerely,
Dan

"Hotfixes" are the updates you installed from the Windows Update
website. Do not be tempted to remove them or you will uninstall
the actual updates.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.
