removing photos from desktop

I have downloaded digital copies of pictures I have taken with a regular camera and digitized from the Kodak photo website. I have created folders for the photos. On my desktop there is a copy of each of the photos as well. When I delete the copy on the desktop, it just repopulates as copy 1, copy 2, copy 3 etc. How do I keep the system from automatically creating copies of pictures that I don't want to have anymore or only want to store in one place?

Clicking and dragging while holding
your Ctrl or Shift key is what causes
the copies.

Try this...open any folder and go to...
Tools / Folder Options...
Tick..."Single click to open an item"
Apply / OK...

Now you can select a file or folder
with a simple mouse over. Just
place your pointer on the item and
wait a second or two...(if it doesn't
appear to work...try left clicking a
blank space on your desktop and
try again)

Now...try this on your desktop...

Depress your Ctrl key and hold it...
Place your pointer on each image
that you wish to delete until they are
all selected. Now press your "Delete"
key.

You will see a dialog box that asks
if you're sure that you want to move the
item/s to the recycle bin...click "Yes"
