removing old Network connections

Gary

Hi All:

I had a MB start to go bad on me so I replaced the MB with the same
one, a Abit IC7-G. This MB has an Intel NIC built into the MB. After
I cleaned the Bios and reset every thing it fired up just fine except
for the NIC. After I reinstalled the NIC drivers all was working
fine. I use a fixed IP on this machine, so when I reset the IP I got
a warning from MS that there was a hidden Network connect that was not
active that was also using that IP. It warned if both were actice at
the same time the connections could become unstable. I guess the
network connection is tied to the old MB's NIC MAC address and there
is no chance of them both being active at the same time, so I guess I
a OK. But does anyone one know how to remove the Old inactive Network
Connect tied to the old MB?

Thanks

Gary

It seems likely that the old NIC still exists as a 'non-present' device,
lurking hidden within Device Manager.

Have a read of this:

Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not
Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315539

You might like to use this article to force Device Manager to show the
nonpresent devices.
The nonpresent ghosts should now reveal themselves.
You could then delete the nonpresent network adapter from device manager.
