Removing NAV 2004

I

Win 98se

Have just installed Norton Antivirus 2004, after removing 2003 ver.
Having nothing but problems, "Not enough Memory" locking up etc.
Email ceased working
Think the problem is from bits of 2003 ver being left behind.
Want to uninstall all and start again.
Noted that Symantec have a RNAV utility that cleans your system of
NAV 2003, what about 2004?

Any help appreciated

Don't know the answer I'm afraid, but I went through exactly the same
process a few months ago with no problems. That is (with W98SE) I
uninstalled NAV2003, then installed NAV2004 - it all went very smoothly.

Uninstall 2004, run the RNAV utility to remove any traces of 2003, (reboot
your machine whenever asked to do so) then reinstall 2004.

No, Uninstall 2004, run the RNAV utility to remove any traces of 2003,
(reboot your machine whenever asked to do so) then install some other
Virusscanner.

I don't know about win98, but I went through the same problem with
win2000. Lot's of trouble and two wasted days over it. Still have the
'check incoming mail' precious function deactivated in order for POP3
download being possible :-(
Don't know about the phone help service, but Symantec's forum helping
service was useless.
From what I've heard you'll have to delete the resident folders after
uninstall, and a couple of registry keys. That doesn't mean you'll be
successful. That's the shitty thing about NAV, probably the only
software in the world that who knows where it will work...
Go to Symantec's site and do a search through similar problems, you'll
get to documentation that can be helpful. Good luck!

One further thing
When trying to Unistall NAV2004
I get the following

"Setup has detected that LiveUpdate is running. Please stop LiveUpdate
and relauch setup. Setup will now abort"

Fair enough, but how does one close LiveUpdate?
ctrl/alt/del brings up the tasks that are running, but nothing is
obvious.

Just a thought. Have you tried to disable "automatic live update" and then
uninstall?

You have to uninstall Symantec Live Update as well, before attempting any
install.?

That sounds quite likely. I have several separate entries in the Add/Remove
Programs dialog:

LiveReg (Symantec Corporation)
LiveUpdate 2.0 (Symantec Corporation)
Norton AntiVirus 2004 (Symantec Corporation)

perhaps they need to be uninstalled in a particular order?

Probably doesn't matter, as long as they are uninstalled through
"add/remove".
A new Ver 2004 will install a new Live Update etc.
(I decided to stick with ver 2003) :)

Thanks for all your comments.
Not happy with NAV2004, too many problems relating to previous
installs. May change over to Mcafee.

Thanks...Ian

Interesting. I changed from McAfee to NAV because of too many problems with
McAfee!
