Removing MDAC 2.81

Guest

Hi,

I have XP pro SP2, however I need to remove mdac, as an app that we use
requires mdac 2.6.
So far I am unable to remove it, as the setup for 2.81 is not supported for
XP.

Is it possible to remove mdac 2.81?

I have already had a look using the component checker, and doesn't seemt o
have an option for removing mdac.

If I try to install mdac 2.6, it seems to think that it has installed
successfully, however all of the files look like they are being replaced by
the copies in the dll cache.

For versions later than 2.6 the option was moved. So look for it in Control
Panel|Add/Remove Programs

Hi,

For WinXP computers, there is no supported way to downgrade MDAC to
v2.6. To use MDAC 2.6, install Windows 2000.

Programs that work with 2.6 should work with 2.8 as it is
still reverse compatible.
In XP, there is no way to downgrade, repair, or remove MDAC
officially. The only thing you can do is install a newer
version.
As you have found out, installing an earlier version is
futile- it is protected by System File Protection.
Search google for csrepair.exe I have had luck with that
where I work on troubleshooting MDAC issues- just open it
and choose to re-register MDAC. You can also do the same
with Jet 4.0 while you are in there

You can't go back further than ver 2.7 In order to do so you'll need to
uninstall SP2
