ran msconfig
and uncheck the Ghosttray.exe
therefore I can't see the tray icon, and am happy
but affraid it doesn't work well as for incremental backups
but I hope to manually use incremental backups not automatic or scheduled

Not even a clue close to what you are speaking of. That said see if this
helps:

Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup and Selective Startup (Line 148)

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit

The Ghost Tray is the Icon Tray is not needed, it is there to launch the
program. You can do this by using the Start Menu. Norton Ghost is
actually a service and is always running unless you stop the service.
