Removing Formatting Marks from messages

I'm seeing Formatting Marks (exactly like what you'd get in Word) when
composing messages in Outlook 2003 and can't find any way to turn the option
off.

Help!! It's driving me insane!!

If you're using Word as your email editor, it's the same thing. In a new
message, either click the "paragraph symbol" button or go to tools, options,
view, and clear the checkboxes under "formatting marks"

I have the same problem with Paragraph formatting marks. I can hit the
paragraph button and they dissappear as you said in the proir post, but then
I am unable to use my mouse to click and type. My keyboard will respomd with
the formatting marks despite t he fact I turned them off. aaaarrrgh, talk
about going insane! Dell wanted to charge me $35 to give me the answer to
this. Needless to say I hung up after being transferred 3x to techs that
barely spoke English. A cry to the techies out there for help in outlook.
Thanks, cccgunther

I understand clicking with a mouse, but I don't understand typing with it.

Well, I don't use Word as email editor, so I haven't run into this. What
version of Outlook? Is office fully patched from windows update/office
update?

Someone I work with has the same problem, but there is no view to turn it
off. If I am Word, I can, but it doesn't help. When I turn off Word as an
editor it goes away, but she likes using Word as an editor. We are using
Outlook 2003.
