removing dual boot

I mistakenly created an installation of Windows when I was trying to format a
slave drive. This version needs this drive and all my icons were gone.

If I disconnect this drive, I get a message that the machine can't boot, but
if I just press enter, it continues to a point where I have choice of 2
Windows ops. Choosing the 2nd brought back all my icons and working programs.

HowI can get rid of the unwanted 2nd installed Windows, which needs the slave?

Please explain how you did it. I need to remove my win98 from my dual boot
win98/winXP.
Thanks in advance for your help
