Removing disk from spanned volume ?

A

Andrew Simonov

Hi,

I've accidentally add new hard drive to another dynamic disk in Disk
Management, so there is a spanned volume now. I would like to remove this
new disk because I don't need any spanned volumes.
But, as I understand, if I simply remove that disk, all volume (including
old dynamic disk) will lost.
How could I remove the disk safe from spanned volume ?

P.S. Windows 2000 Server SP4.

You are correct, you need to backup, delete the volume, create a new one,
and then restore. I am not aware of any other solution.

You and Andrew are wrong. You just need enough free space. Shrink the volume. Move all slices from the drive you wish to remove to the newly unallocated space. Remove the drive. No data loss. No backups necessary. No rebuilding of the spanned volume. Sorry for necroing but super old posts is all I could find when researching the topic and there are people spreading false information everywhere and before you jump to "it was different back then!" - it wasn't. What I'm proposing was absolutely possible in 2004 and moved from possible to very easy in 2011 as aomei partition assistant was released.
