Removing a partition (with apologies for cross-posting)

(I originally submitted this question to ms.public.windowsxp.hardware,
but, belatedly, it occurred to me that it isn`t really a hardware
question after all, so I hope that I have now chosen the correct NG.)

My HD has two partitions : F:/ is the main one I use, running Win XP
SP3, but the other uses Win 98SE. I very rarely use this partition
and it was only created so that I could run old software. I increased
RAM to 1.5 GB a while back, and when I tried to boot into Win 98SE
today, I got the "Insufficient memory to initialize Windows. Quit one
or more memory-resident programs..." message. I tried the system.ini
workaround modification of adding MaxPhysPage=30000 to [386Enh], but
that didn`t work, so I think I shall have to finally say farewell to
Win 98 and delete the partition. I have never had to do this before.
Is it just a matter of going to Disk Management, highlighting the
volume letter and pressing delete? Also, will the freed disk space be
automatically added to F:/ drive? Unless, of course, someone knows of
another workaround I could try, short of physically removing some RAM,
please?

Many thanks
Kate

- Yes, you can press Delete in Disk Management to delete the partition.
- No, the freed space will not be added to drive F:. You need a third-party
partition manager, e.g. Acronis DiskDirector.
- You should ask a Win98 newsgroup about the RAM issue. Alternatively you
could install a Virtual Machine for Win98
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx)

I did have a look for a Microsoft Win98 NG, but, not surprisingly, the
suitable ones look rather under-subscribed now.
As it seems to be more complicated than I had hoped to incorporate the
C:/ partition space into my F: drive, I will probably end up leaving
things the way they are until I need more disk space for my main
drive.

Thanks for the reply

If you think you shouldn't do it, then don't.

If you think it's OK to do, why would you apologize?

Beyond either of those, why are you apologizing
for something you didn't do?
