Now I can't access the internet.
My Local Area Connection, which is Broadband Cable high speed, shows
connectivity and activity to the modem, however, everytime I try to click on
the Internet Explorer Icon to open up a window to browse the internet, I keep
getting the error...
This page cannot be displayed.
I have tried everything to try and troubleshoot to the best I could and
still nothing is working to get me On Internet Explorer.
I thin when I used AVAST to remove NEWDOTNET trojan from my PC it took my
browser with it, becasue this is when the problem began. I have tried
Recovery Console...Didn't work..
I have tried System Restore...RESTORATION INCOMPLETE it says...
I have a son who was one of the 172nd Stryker Comat Brigade who's deployment
was just got extended and he called last night to tell me he'll only have
Yahoo IM access and won't be able to get to a phone for sometime and so I
have to have my Internet so I can keep in contact with my son in Baghdad...
Please can someone help me? :'(
Thanks..

Any Reason you haven't tried www.IE7.com :) or www.OPERA.com

You don't need to remove IE, just install the browser of your choice
and use it - forget about IE.

When you get a Trojan/Virus you usually need to turn off system restore
untill your system is clean. Otherwise if you use restore you will be
reinfected. Turn it back on only after the system is clean.

Try in Internet Options deleting all temp files and cookies.
If that doesnt work post to an IE group

Hi Vicki:

Sounds like a "Winsock LSP" problem.

If you have Windows XP SP2 (service pack 2) installed try this:
Click on Start=>Run and then type (or copy and paste):
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit enter

If you have Windows XP without the SP2 update:
Go to this site:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257
Follow the instructions.

You need to reset the winsock2 settings. Follow Nick's instructions. Another
way to do this is with a program called LSPFix.

You don't need to remove IE, just install the browser of your choice
and use it - forget about IE.

This won't fix the problem. The winsock2 settings need to be reset. Removing
Newdotnet and other malware often causes this problem.

Penny...
yes...the reason I have not tried www.IE7, etc..is becasue I CANNOT ACCESS
THE INTERNET...

Kerry and Nick...
Thank you both for your replies and advice...I see others who have had same
issue, received similar advice from other's, so that is confirmation to me.
TY!
