I want to remove WinME from my dual boot system, I found this info
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/cook/uninstall.htm (or see below) for win2000.. I
have WinXP/winME. I assume this will work but I figure I better ask the
experts first.

REMOVE WINDOWS 9X FROM A DUAL BOOT WITH WINDOWS 2000
This one is a bit simpler, and can be done whilst working in Windows 2000.
Remove the Read Only property from the boot.ini file and then open the
boot.ini file using notepad. Delete the lines that refer to Windows 9X,
ensuring first that the Default= line refers to your Windows 2000
installation, not Windows 9X!! If you are not comfortable deleting the
reference to Windows 9X, you can simply disable it in the boot.ini file by
adding the line [any text] above the information you wish to disable, e.g.

[Boot Loader]
timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT

[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect /nodebug
[any text]
C:\="Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition"
You may then wish to set timeout=0 so that the Boot Loader does not display:
this will boot the system directly into Windows 2000. Then delete the
WINDOWS and PROGRAM FILES folders from the Windows 9X partition, and delete
the boot files: io.sys, msdos.sys, command.com and if necessary autoexec.bat
and config.sys.

I don't need Win9x any longer and I want to get that disk space back. The
other info that may be relevant is I have mirror setup via a Promise card.
That should not matter correct? The C:\ is where Win9x is, the D:\ is where
WinXp is located. I realize I can't format C:\ but I would like to convert
the C:\ to NTFS once the C:\ is cleaned up ..Would there be any problem
converting the C:\ to NTFS? is it really be just a matter of deleting
io.sys, msdos.sys, command.com and editing the boot.ini ? XP is running to
good just to blow it all away and start over.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

The instructions are the same, and all you need to do with the 9x system
folders on C:\ is delete them using Windows Explorer. Converting to NTFS is
not an issue either, please read:

Thanks Rick! All is good with the boot.ini and file deletion. I want to read
the link you posted and try to understand it a little better before I
convert to NTFS. I'm a little lost on this one so I have to re-read about 50
more times.. BTW- nice webpage

Thanks again for your help,

Joe
