Remove "URGE" from Media Player 11?

Jon

The reason I decided to write that, was mainly because "Tom25"
Does anyone know how to remove "URGE" from Media Player 11?

Thanks
Tom

Installing Winamp may help to keep your urges under control
http://www.winamp.com/

Otherwise stick with Windows Media Player 9 - no urges, no rip or burn in
the title bar.....

I read about this in a forum and I believe it has something to do with
doing a custom install, I'll go find the info and post back.

Found the post, don't know whether it will help but here it is.

You get a choice only if you install as "Custom". As to where it might be,
I do not have it installed on my machine. My guess it will go away after
two weeks as you will have to start paying about then, after the free
trial is over.
However, if you mouse to the MSN Music button you will see a small arrow
under it, click the arrow and you will see all your current stores. I have
an URGE button, no doubt to turn it on, perhaps you can turn it off there
as well.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for your answer.

I removed MP11 and installed it again using the "custom" option. I checked
the option "Do not setup an online store", but when MP11 started I got the
big URGE logo. This is frustrating!

Thanks for your help,
Tom

Just change your choice of store to "Media Guide", it's the least
bothersome, and is what wmp10 defaulted to.

Note that wmp 11 seems to be far more "store-centric" than
"player-centric", a sign of the times I suppose. If you don't need it
then stick w/ 9 or 10. 11 can be rolled back to the previous version via
Add/Remove Programs...

Sorry it didn't help, hope you manage to sort it out. I haven't installed
it, I have version 10 on here and don't use that so have no need to
upgrade <g>

urge appears in the add/remove programs list. haven't tried it yet,
but i'd think that uninstalling it from there would remove it.

media player 11 is superior to 10, so i wouldn't go as far as to remove
11 completely.

have you tried ripping in the 192 kbps wma pro codec yet? awesome!

The problem for enterprise tech departments is getting rid of the URGE
button. Our tech department refuses to set things up so that users
don't have to be administrators. (There are many applications run here
that demand it. There are, of course, work-arounds to the administator
needs, but they are hard to implement and support.)
Our users will be clicking the URGE button and getting it installed.
We need the WMPNetworkSvc service stopped, disabled, and the URGE
button removed from MediaPlayer. Uninstalling URGE doesn't remove the
button. Choosing another store doesn't remove URGE from the drop-down.
In fact, I want the entire media store applet removed from MediaPlayer.
Until I can figure that out, MP11 is on my S-list.
For personal use, MP11 is great, and so is URGE. But for enterprise
use, we don't want our people wasting time and hogging network
resources downloading music and video.
Why can't MS build an enterprise package?
I downloaded the MediaPlayer Redistribution tool, but there's no option
to can the media store button. Shame on MS. Bad MS, bad!

You might want to post to the media player newsgroup:
