Remove Startup process in Windows XP

K

Kelly

I need to remove a process from startup in Windows XP.
(It's a part of a program I installed. But I do not like the fact that
it loads during startup.)

MSCONFIG does not really allow me to permanently remove it. (long
story)
Plus Removing it from C:\Documents & Settings - did not help either.

Does anyone one know where in the registry are startup process listed
(i.e. programs/processes that load on startup) - so I can manually
remove it.

Thank You
Kelly

Typically, programs loaded from the Registry are loaded from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You can also see www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Startup Programs Tracker. This small utility gives a more readable format than MSCONFIG and the included Help give you basic information on how to remove items from the various startup locations.

Start|Run|msinfo32.exe Software Environment|Startup Programs should give you
the location.
