How do I remove SmartArt (aka convert the graphic to text) in PowerPoint?

The only thing you can do is click on the little arrows in the text pane
next to the the smartart, select and copy the text, delete the smartart, and
paste the text back into the slide or in a placeholder.

There is no automatic option in PowerPoint 2007, use the workaround Luc
described.

There will be a button to revert a SmartArt to text in PowerPoint 2010
