Even though I don't connect anymore to a particular LAN, the shared folders
still show up in my Network Neighborhood. Is there a way to clean out this
cache?

Have you tried:
Right click on the folder in question and select "delete"? - or -
Highlight the folder in question and hit the <DELETE> key on the
keyboard?

Since you are not connected to the LAN, the only action it should accomplish
is "deleting" them from Network Neighborhood.
