Remove Picture from Background Picture List

The Background Picture (wallpaper) list is displaying all the pictures from
"My Picture" folder. How do I stop that other than removing all my pictures
from that My Pictures folder and putting it in another folder which defeats
the whole purpose of that folder.

Additional Information: These pictures are not in the Wallpapers folder in
the Windows folder so it is not just a matter of removing the pictures from
that folder.

I may be proved wrong but I don't think you can, pictures in the My Pictures
folder are also listed in the wallpaper list with other default windows
wallpapers.

Are you sure these pictures aren't in your C:\Windows folder? Because all
pictures listed in the Backround Pictures list are located in C:\Windows
folder, you have to delete them from there, not from My Pictures folder.

Because all
pictures listed in the Backround Pictures list are located in C:\Windows
folder,

That is an incorrect statement.

[[For the Display Properties Background tab, Windows XP fetches the image
files from the following locations:

BMP Files from %Systemroot% folder. This is usually C:\Windows

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:

%Systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures (& sub-folders)
%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
%ProgramFiles%\Plus!\Themes (& sub-folders)
If you want to clear a file from that list, move the file away from the
above locations. Type the above paths in Start, Run dialog.]]

As stated in my original post, I know that moving the pictures away from "My
Pictures" folder would remove the pictures from the list.

BUT

Is there another way to do it and still leave all my pictures in the My
Pictures folder? Because moving the pictures away would effectively mean that
the My Pictures folder is useless as I cannot store any pictures there.

Yes, you can set a policy to only display .bmp files.

You can still set a JPG file as a background image using the Common Tasks
Set as desktop background link.

To display only .bmp files use Group Policy.

If XP Pro, see one of these...
Active Desktop Wallpaper
http://www.boyce.us/gp/gpcontent.asp?ID=417

Allow only bitmapped wallpaper
http://www.boyce.us/gp/gpcontent.asp?ID=418

If XP Home, you have to use a registry setting...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er
NoHTMLWallpaper
or
NoActiveDesktop

See NoHTMLWallpaper here for how to do it...
Active Desktop Restrictions
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/443/

Allow only bitmapped wallpaper
[[Permits only bitmap images for wallpaper. This setting limits the desktop
background (wallpaper) to bitmap (.bmp) files. If users select files with
other image formats, such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, or HTML, through the Browse
button on the Desktop tab, the wallpaper does not load. Files that are
autoconverted to a .bmp format, such as JPEG, GIF, and PNG, can be set as
Wallpaper by right-clicking the image and selecting Set as Wallpaper.]]
