remove old network connection

due to hardware problem, I had to relocate the XP pro to another PC which
has no network card but built-in Intel Pro network.

Now is there a way of removing the old D-link nic? It is causing havoc with
software activation. software activation still uses the old but hidden
network connection it thinks on the system. consequently activation now
requires phone.

is there a way of removing the old d-link nic connection w/o putting an
actual nic?

You should be able to right click on "My Computer" and go to manage. Open
up the system tools if it isn't already open, then go to the device manager
(should be on the bottom).

Under the network devices, you should be able to right click on the nic that
used to exist on the other machine and be able to "Uinstall" it.

Then go into control panel, double click on network connections, and on the
old NIC right click and disable it.
