Remove Name from Network

How can I remove or change a computer name from a network
without going through the "set up a home or work network"

You can right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Click on the
Computer Name tab. Click on the Change button and you will get a dialog
where you can change the computer name as well as join it to the domain or
workgroup.
